Getting to know eyebrow tinting: how long does eyebrow tinting last?

Fuller brows are definitely on trend and a tint is a great way to get that look. But how long does eyebrow tinting actually last?

Gone are the days of pencil thin drawn on brows and extreme plucking of the early noughties, in recent years natural brows are back. Your eyebrows can completely transform your face, and a fuller brow can help you appear more youthful.

Chemical tinting

Chemical eyebrow tints are a semi permanent dye that is applied to your brows. You can either go to a salon or buy a kit to do it yourself and the entire process only takes a few minutes.

How long does it last?

Most salons and kits advertise a four to six week time before needing to apply again, however, from my own personal experience I’ve found that after a week it has faded.

This has meant that sometimes I’ve found myself tinting my brows on a weekly basis!

Are there any risks associated with chemical tinting your brows?

Regular eyebrow tints can come with risks. Regular exposure to the chemicals in tints can thin the skin around the brows meaning that the skin is increasingly likely to have allergic reactions and irritation.

The more sensitive skin and hair follicles can also lead to gaps and baldness in the brows, so your full brows actually start to become thinner and patchy! The hair itself too can become brittle and break, meaning the brow hairs themselves will become shorter.

How can I save my brows?

If you’ve already been tinting your brows for some time you may already be seeing damage to your brows and need to give them some major TLC.

We all know a more natural approach to skin care can be far less damaging, and the same can be said for brows.

Similarly in nutrition, and the food we eat, it is important to eat natural unprocessed foods and to incorporate lots of nutrients into your diet.

Here are some of my favourite brow superfoods!

Glycerin is a powerful ingredient when it comes to the repair of any type of hair. It’s a humectant which means that it actually pulls moisture from the air, rehydrating hair and making it a lot healthier. Glycerin can be taken in tablets or applied directly to damaged skin or hair in it’s oil form.

Caster oil is another fantastic oil. It helps promote the growth of healthy skin tissue. Although applying oil to skin may seem counterintuitive if you’re prone to spots or acne, castor oil has a low comedogenic score. This means it is unlikely to clog pores in the skin and actually reduces the risk of developing new spots making it a fantastic oi to use on sensitive skin.

Argan oil hair care products are very popular, and there’s a reason. Rich in vitamin E, fatty acids and squalene, argan oil is used to treat a multitude of skin concerns such as dryness, eczema and psoriasis. The fatty acids and squalene help to seal in moisture whilst vitamin E helps to soothe skin, protect against environmental aggressors and has anti-inflammatory properties. It also contains carotenoids and phenols, which work as antioxidants to protect against harmful free radicals.

It’s therefore a fantastic way to protect the skin, soothe it from previous damage, and to keep skin and hair healthy.

Kaolin clay is an ingredient in a lot of face masks, again for its soothing and healing properties. The small clay particles cleanse your skin and help remove any impurities. Kaolin clay strengthens hair, improves elasticity, and helps repair damaged hair. You’ll remember that one of the things that chemical tints can really impact is the elasticity of the brows, by making them brittle, so kaolin clay is a fantastic way to counter the damage that has been done.

That sounds like a lot of product…

When I first started to realise the damage that was being done to my brows with regular eyebrow tints and explored ways that I could prevent this damage I realised that the superfoods for my brows could actually be used together to create an alternative.

That’s when I realised I should create a new product that still tints your brows but instead works to make your eyebrows healthier rather than weaker.

Fuel and Tint was born.

Fuel and Tint acts as an easy to use eyebrow tint that colours your brows with every use and uses all of the above ingredients to promote healthy brows, and healthy skin.

As well as healing any damage caused to previously tinted brows, it provides a much healthier alternative.

You simply use it like an eyebrow tint. The colour will also fill in any pre existing gaps and promote hair growth in these problem, damaged areas.

When brows can have such an impact on your face, especially when you’re make-up free, having a natural tint that is actually improving their health really is a game changer.

Plus you can create a thicker, longer volumized brow using the Fuel and Bake powder for when you need a dramatic, night-time look.

So what have we learnt?

Our pursuit of fuller, healthier, natural looking brows should not also cause your brows to decline back to a noughties look. It is vital to take care of your brows and keep that area of skin nourished and healthy.

Treat your brows like another part of your body that you want to provide with the nourishment they need while still keeping them looking amazing.

You don’t have to sacrifice having great brows by using natural products!
